Sept. 13 Run/Walk: Meet at Schenley Plaza in Oakland

Aimee and I agree this would be a good place to meet again, so here it is:  the Tent at Schenley Plaza, and possibly a run up to the Reservoir - or maybe if Laurie can come (hint!) she can take us on one of her surprise routes through unexplored territory.  There is coffee nearby this time, and possibly bathrooms!  Bring a chair just in case.

Last week we studied the new Glasshouse apartments at Station Square with a somewhat critical eye.  They did let us lounge on their riverside sofas, but I think that was by mistake.  Runners went off to visit the new Pittsburgh Highline, and walkers the new-ish trail that now completely surrounds downtown right along all three rivers.  Just a few endorsements:

  • The close-up view of the stunning Black Lives Matter mural along the Allegheny - detail that you can't see from afar.
  • the Highline (OK, can't compare to NYC, but it's ours.)
  • Books by Carl Hiaasen - escape from the present into an equally insane world but at least it's funny
  • The archaeological discoveries from underneath the Fairmont Hotel that you can see in the lobby.
  • But please not Boca Raton - there are pythons!
